We left Dawson City, Yukon for Fairbanks, Alaska via the Top
of the World highway, a 175 mile mostly gravel road. Along the way we stopped at Santa’s House at
the North Pole, Alaska. After Fairbanks, we started our trip up the Dalton
highway to the Arctic Circle. The Dalton highway is a 415 mile mostly gravel
road originally called the Haul road since it was built for access to the oil
fields, however, we only traveled 230 miles round trip to the Arctic Circle. During our seven week trip we saw wild turkeys, fox, deer, a mother bear with two cubs (twice),
bears, Bighorn sheep, Dall sheep, Stone sheep, marmot, ducks, beaver dam,
moose and bison.
